About
Deadly cardiac rhythms that require defibrillation and/or precordial thump to alter rhythm and subsequent death.
Assess
Airway, breathing, circulation. Level of consciousness, pulse oximetry. Serial serum troponins.
Complications
Cardiac arrest; respiratory arrest; death
Diagnosis
- Decreased cardiac output related to abnormal heart rate or rhythm
- Ineffective tissue perfusion related to altered blood flow through the heart
Goals
The client will have a return of normal sinus rhythm.
Interventions
- Call a code ( call for help) before beginning CPR.
- Defibrillate immediately to try to restore normal rhythm immediately.
- Begin chest compressions and ambu bag respirations immediately.
- Administer drugs ( Amiodarone, lidocaine, epinephrine, vasopressin, antidysrhythmics, etc.) as indicated.
- Contact family members, next of kin.
- Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
