About
A superficial skin inflammation and infection typically caused by staphylococcus.
Assess
Superficial redness, pimples, small pustules
Complications
Spread of infection to other areas or to close contacts; MRSA
Diagnosis
- Pain related to inflamed skin surfaces
- Risk for impaired skin integrity related to inflammation and infection
- Knowledge deficit related to medication and treatment
Goals
- The client will remain free from injury.
- The client will be free of infection
Interventions
- Monitor site, marking area of redness to compare on a daily basis.
- Monitor VS, CBC, circulation to extremity.
- Administer prescribed antibiotics.
- Teach client about medication regimen, stressing importance on continuing treatment even if symptoms improve.
- Teach client methods to reduce the spread of infection to other areas.
- Teach proper hygiene and cleansing of skin surfaces.
- Maintain clean, dry skin surfaces.
- Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
