268-Fibromyalgia

About
Chronic pain syndrome usually diagnosed after several trigger points are identified throughout the body.
Assess
Pain, usually diagnosed based upon several painful "trigger points". Assess coping, ability to be actively involved in activities of daily living.
Complications
Chronic pain
Depression, ineffective coping- refer to support services in area, encourage client to notify health care physician if changes or difficulty managing symptoms.
Diagnosis
Chronic pain related to disease process
Goals
  • The client will state an acceptable pain level after interventions.
  • The client will identify three measures to help control or alleviate pain symptoms.
Interventions
  • Administer analgesics, as ordered, as necessary for pain.
  • Teach client about medications, goal of treatment, side effects.
  • Teach client alternative methods for pain relief including guided imagery, physical therapies, avoiding certain activities that bring on pain, etc.
  • Encourage client to verbalize feelings related to diagnosis and treatments.
  • Notify the doctor if current treatments are not managing client pain.
  • Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
