About
A superficial burn effecting the epidermis caused by prolonged exposure to heat ( sunburn) or sudden quick exposure to intense heat.
Assess
Redness, warmth, edema, pain, peeling of dead skin
Complications
Infection, scarring
Diagnosis
- Acute pain related to skin abrasion and blistering
- Risk for infection related to impaired skin integrity
Goals
- The client will state a decrease in pain.
- The client will remain free from infection.
Interventions
- Apply cool compresses to minimize discomfort.
- Administer topical glucocorticoids, cooling agents, analgesics, etc. as ordered.
- Administer topical antibiotics for open blisters, as ordered.
- Teach client ways to prevent future burns.
- Teach client ways to minimize the risk of infection.
- Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
