294-Minor Superficial Burn

About
A superficial burn effecting the epidermis caused by prolonged exposure to heat ( sunburn) or sudden quick exposure to intense heat.
Assess
Redness, warmth, edema, pain, peeling of dead skin
Complications
Infection, scarring
Diagnosis
  • Acute pain related to skin abrasion and blistering
  • Risk for infection related to impaired skin integrity
Goals
  • The client will state a decrease in pain.
  • The client will remain free from infection.
Interventions
  • Apply cool compresses to minimize discomfort.
  • Administer topical glucocorticoids, cooling agents, analgesics, etc. as ordered.
  • Administer topical antibiotics for open blisters, as ordered.
  • Teach client ways to prevent future burns.
  • Teach client ways to minimize the risk of infection.
  • Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
