Assess
Hearing, ear canal with otoscope
Complications
Ear drum perforation, infection
Diagnosis
- Knowledge deficit related to treatment.
- Sensory deficit related to auditory impairment.
Goals
- the client will have decreased cerumen in the ear canal.
- The client will have improved hearing via a whisper test after disempaction of ear canal.
Interventions
- Assess the external ear visually and internal ear with an otoscope.
- Administer an peroxide/ sterile saline irrigation to the ear canal as ordered by physician.
- Reassess hearing after ear irrigation.
- Encourage client to not use anything inside ea ( q-tips, etc) and to return if hearing seems to decrease.
