About
Excessive tissue outside the uterus of endometrial origin.
Assess
Menstrual history, sexual history, pain characteristics, painful intercourse, back pain, pain with bowel movements, infertility, excessive or prolonged bleeding
Complications
Infertility; chronic pain; surgical intervention including hysterectomy
Diagnosis
Acute pain related to excess endometrial tissue
Goals
- The client will state understanding of disease treatment and symptom management.
- The client will state a decrease in pain.
Interventions
- Administer medications ( analgesics, NSAID, suppressive therapies, etc.) as ordered.
- Teach client about disease management and treatment strategies.
- Encourage client to discuss feelings regarding potential infertility.
- Encourage alternative methods to relieve pain including heat, massage, distraction.
- Prepare for laparoscopy or other surgical interventions as indicated.
- Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
