292-Impetigo

About
Infectious skin disorder, highly contagious, usually resulting from bacterial organisms such as staphlyococcus aureus or streptococci.
Assess
Body, face, hands, neck, extremities for reddened lesions sometimes with yellowish discharge or crust covering.
Complications
Infection, Glomerulernephritis
Diagnosis
  • Body image disturbance related to alteration in skin appearance.
  • Risk for infection related to altered skin integrity.
  • Knowledge deficit related to prevention of spread of disease and treatment.
Goals
  • The client will have a decrease in appearance of lesions and drainage.
  • The client will identify treatment regimen and interventions to prevent the spread of infection and or event reoccurrence.
Interventions
  • Wear gloves with any skin contact. Strict aseptic technique is required to prevent the spread of infection.
  • Assess appearance of lesions, drainage characteristics.
  • Administer antibiotics as prescribed by physician.
  • When administering topical antibiotics, cleanse the skin first with betadine, remove central crusts by soaking in soap and water, than apply topical agent to lesions.
  • Teach client to not share towels with family members, wash face twice daily with antiseptic soap and water, and prevent the spread of infection.
