About
X-linked congenital disease affecting mainly boys characterized by frequent, recurrent infections and rare bacterial infections.
Assess
Frequent infections, rare bacterial infections, absence of circulating antibodies, family history
Complications
Opportunistic infections; pulmonary problems; sinus problems
Diagnosis
Risk for infection related to altered immune response
Goals
- The client will remain free from infection.
- The client will verbalize understanding of treatment plan.
Interventions
- Monitor for s/s of infection.
- Administer IV immunoglobulin every few weeks as ordered; may also be given weekly subcutaneously.
- Prevent opportunistic infections, maintain reverse isolation precautions for immunocompromised individual.
- Administer antibiotics as indicated.
- Teach client and family infection control practices including good hand-washing, avoidance of large crowds, avoidance of people who are ill.
- Teach client and family maintenance therapy, medication regimen, outcomes, and when to seek additional treatment.
- Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
