About
Elevated LDL's and decreased HDL's with or without elevated triglycerides, chylomicrons, VLDL's.
Assess
Lipid profiles, hypertension, dietary intake, smoking and alcohol consumption
Complications
Coronary artery disease, arteriosclerosis, atherosclerosis, stroke, hypertension
Diagnosis
- Risk for ineffective therapeutic regimen management related to possible noncompliance with treatment
- Knowledge deficit related to disease risks, dietary management, and lifestyle changes
Goals
- The client will identify lifestyle modifications to incorporate into daily routine.
- The client will have a decrease in LDL's and an increase in HDL's.
Interventions
- Administer medications ( statins, antihypertensives, etc.) as ordered.
- Teach client non-pharmacological treatments including low sodium, low fat, low cholesterol diet, exercise, weight reduction, smoking cessation, avoiding alcohol.
- Teach client about medications including rationale, side effects, dosing schedule.
- Teach client how to monitor blood pressure and when to seek follow-up treatment.
- Teach client about disease and its effects on other body areas and s/s of complications.
- Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
