About
Hardening and narrowing of the coronary blood vessels causing impaired cardiac oxygenation and decreased cardiac perfusion.
Assess
Lipid profiles, syncope, dizziness, hypertension, risk factors for disease ( smoker, sedentary lifestyle, high fat diet, excessive alcohol consumption), genetic predisposition, diet
Complications
Myocardial infarction, hypertension, stroke, impaired circulation
Diagnosis
- Ineffective health maintenance related to deficient knowledge of disease, medications, and lifestyle changes
- Ineffective tissue perfusion related to altered arterial blood flow
- Impaired cardiac output related to altered blood flow and oxygenation to cardiac muscle
Goals
- The client will remain free from cardiac incident.
- The client will identify components of disease treatment plan and modifiable risk factors.
Interventions
- Monitor vital signs, electrolytes, fluid balance, intakes and outputs, telemetry, and coagulation studies.
- Administer medications ( statins, antiplatelets, antihypertensives, nitrates, cardiac glycosides, etc.) as ordered.
- Teach client non-pharmacological treatments including low sodium, low fat, low cholesterol diet, exercise, weight reduction, smoking cessation, avoiding alcohol.
- Teach client about medications including rationale, side effects, dosing schedule.
- Teach client how to monitor blood pressure and when to seek follow-up treatment.
- Teach client about disease and its effects on other body areas and s/s of complications.
- Teach client how to use AED if candidate for having one in the home.
- Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
