About
Inflammation and irritation of the bladder.
Assess
Urinary frequency, difficulty, urgency; cloudy, foul smelling, blood-tinged urine; abnormal urinalysis
Complications
UTI; pain
Diagnosis
- Acute pain related to inflammation of the urethra
- Risk for infection related to inflamed tissues
- Impaired urinary elimination related to increased frequency and pain
Goals
- The client will remain free from infection.
- The client will be able to identify contributing factors to condition, and methods to prevent reoccurrence.
Interventions
- Monitor urinalysis, vitals, and s/s of infection.
- Encourage client to utilize effective hygiene measures to prevent bacterial invasion ( wipe front to back).
- Teach client to not use soaps or hygiene sprays in perineal area that may contribute to tissue irritation.
- Administer antibiotics, antispasmodics, etc. as indicated.
- Encourage client to drink extra fluids and well balanced diet to help prevent infection.
- Monitor for signs/ symptoms of complications.
